Colorado has a traction law: An active Traction Law requires motorists to have either snow tires, tires with the mud/snow (M+S) designation, or a four-wheel/all-wheel-drive vehicle. All tires must now have a minimum of three-sixteenths inch tread.

Please note:  In the winter months it is best to drive in & out from the east side of Garfield due to the steepness of the road near the Monarch Mountain Lodge.
